FAQs

Answers to Popular Questions About Eletriptan

What is Eletriptan?

Eletriptan (eletriptan hydrobromide) is a selective serotonin 5-HT1B/1D receptor agonist (triptan) used for the acute treatment of migraine headaches with or without aura. It is available as 20 mg and 40 mg tablets, with the branded version being Relpax. Generic eletriptan is available in the UK at a lower cost. Eletriptan is one of the more potent triptans, with clinical trials showing 2-hour pain-free rates of approximately 35% at the 40 mg dose.

How is Eletriptan different from other triptans?

Eletriptan has several distinguishing features among triptans: it is one of the most effective triptans for 2-hour headache relief and sustained pain-free response, has good CNS penetration which may contribute to efficacy, has a half-life of approximately 4 hours, and is well-absorbed orally. However, it has a significant interaction with CYP3A4 inhibitors (unlike most other triptans) and is contraindicated with potent CYP3A4 inhibitors. Each triptan has a unique pharmacological profile and individual responses vary.

How do I take Eletriptan?

Take one eletriptan 40 mg tablet at the onset of migraine headache with water. A second 40 mg dose may be taken after at least 2 hours if the migraine returns. Maximum dose: 80 mg in 24 hours. A 20 mg starting dose is available for those who prefer a lower dose or are sensitive to triptans. Take with or without food. Do not take a second dose if the first dose provided no relief.

What are the side effects of Eletriptan?

Common side effects include dizziness, drowsiness, weakness, nausea, and triptan sensations (chest or throat tightness, tingling, heaviness). These are generally transient and mild. Eletriptan is contraindicated with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors — this is an important difference from most other triptans. Avoid use within 72 hours of strong CYP3A4 inhibitors such as ketoconazole, itraconazole, clarithromycin, and ritonavir.

How can I get Eletriptan?

Eletriptan requires a prescription from your GP, neurologist, or online service like NowPatient. Generic eletriptan is available on the NHS at a lower cost than branded Relpax. Your prescriber will assess your migraine history, cardiovascular risk, and current medications before prescribing.

  • NowPatient is worth your time!

I do not leave reviews, due to time and a rare condition I have. I initially left a message, my call was returned within 2 hours or less. NowPatient offers 4 discount programs. I worked with Jay, he was genuine and wanted to help me all while giving me amazing customer service. Even though I didn't qualify, he gave me some suggestions and tips while encouraging me to follow up with the manufacturer along with other things I could do. This is the real deal, not a scam, and not a waste of your time. Amazing!! Thank you, Jay!
