Everything You Need to Know About Canadian Rx Savings

How does the Canadian Rx Savings program work?

Americans pay significantly more for prescription medications, 218% more than people in other countries like Canada. Canadian drug prices are lower because the Patented Medicines Prices Review Board regulates prescription costs, preventing pharmaceutical companies from charging excessive prices.

The Canadian Prescription Savings program provides access to Canadian pharmacy pricing for Americans. This is a cash-pay program that cannot be combined with insurance or coupons. The cost is often lower than insured copays.

Who should consider using Canadian Rx Savings?

This program benefits people who are:

  • Uninsured
  • Underinsured
  • Insured but unable to afford their copay or coinsurance

Is it legal for me to import medications from Canada

U.S. government officials have indicated they don’t pursue individuals who obtain non-controlled prescription drugs from Canada for personal use (up to a 3-month supply). Hundreds of thousands of Americans use Canadian pharmacies to access medications at substantial discounts. For many patients, affordable medication prices make the difference between receiving treatment or going without.

What role does NowPatient play in Canadian Rx Savings?

NowPatient partners with Canadian Pharmacy, Prescription Help, as an affiliate offering services that may benefit NowPatient users. Prescription Help operates independently and is not connected to NowPatient beyond this partnership.

Do I need a valid prescription?

Yes, a valid U.S. physician prescription must be uploaded with each order. A Canadian physician may contact you and/or your U.S. physician to verify the prescription’s legitimacy and ensure the medication is clinically appropriate for your condition. For high-risk medications, the Canadian physician may request blood test results or other medical data as needed.

Will I have to pay import duties on my order?

No, NowPatient will handle any U.S. import duties on your behalf, so you won’t be charged additional fees when your medication arrives.

Is it safe to order medications using Canadian Rx Savings?

Canadian medications undergo the same rigorous testing as their American counterparts. Health Canada (Canada’s equivalent to the US FDA) regulates all drugs for safety, efficacy, and quality. If cost is preventing you from getting treated, discuss this option with your physician.

NowPatient has conducted thorough due diligence on Prescription Help to verify:

  • Licensed Canadian pharmacy status
  • Valid prescription requirement for all orders
  • Licensed pharmacist available for questions
  • Medications identical to those from U.S. drugstores in appearance and packaging
  • Proper packaging (undamaged, in English, with valid expiration dates)
  • Charges only for ordered and received products
  • Written protections for personal and financial information
  • Highest data security and compliance standards
  • No sale of customer information to third parties
  • No controlled substances supplied
  • No products on FDA Import Alert lists
  • Maximum 3-month supply for international orders
  • Published customer service contact information

Is the Canadian Rx Savings program an insurance?

No, this is not insurance. All payments are cash-based and considered out-of-pocket expenses. This program cannot be used with copay cards or coupons.
