FAQs

Answers to Popular Questions About Relpax

What is Relpax?

Relpax is a brand name for eletriptan hydrobromide, a selective serotonin 5-HT1B/1D receptor agonist (triptan) used for the acute treatment of migraine attacks with or without aura. It is available as 20 mg and 40 mg film-coated tablets. Relpax is a prescription-only medicine manufactured by Pfizer. Eletriptan is one of the more potent triptans available, with high 2-hour response rates and good sustained pain-free response.

How does Relpax work?

Like other triptans, Relpax works by stimulating serotonin 5-HT1B/1D receptors on intracranial blood vessels and trigeminal nerve endings. This causes vasoconstriction of dilated cranial arteries, inhibits the release of pro-inflammatory neuropeptides (including CGRP), and blocks pain signal transmission in the trigeminal pathway. Eletriptan has high selectivity for cranial blood vessels and good CNS penetration, which may contribute to its robust efficacy.

How do I take Relpax?

Take one Relpax 40 mg tablet as soon as migraine headache begins, with water. If the headache improves but recurs, a second 40 mg dose may be taken after at least 2 hours. The maximum dose is 80 mg in 24 hours. A lower starting dose of 20 mg is available. Take with or without food. If the first dose provides no relief at all, do not take a second dose for the same attack.

What are the side effects of Relpax?

Common side effects include dizziness, drowsiness, headache (non-migraine), nausea, weakness, and triptan sensations (tingling, warmth, tightness or pressure in the chest, throat, or limbs). These are generally mild and transient. If chest tightness is severe or persistent, seek medical attention. Eletriptan may cause slightly more chest sensation than some other triptans, but this is rarely clinically significant.

Who should not take Relpax?

Relpax is contraindicated in patients with ischaemic heart disease, coronary vasospasm, peripheral vascular disease, history of stroke or TIA, uncontrolled hypertension, severe hepatic impairment, and those taking potent CYP3A4 inhibitors (ketoconazole, itraconazole, clarithromycin, ritonavir). It should not be used within 24 hours of another triptan or ergotamine.

How can I get Relpax?

Relpax requires a prescription from your GP, neurologist, or online prescriber such as NowPatient. It is available on the NHS. Generic eletriptan is also available. Your prescriber will confirm your migraine diagnosis and assess cardiovascular risk before prescribing.

  • NowPatient is worth your time!

I do not leave reviews, due to time and a rare condition I have. I initially left a message, my call was returned within 2 hours or less. NowPatient offers 4 discount programs. I worked with Jay, he was genuine and wanted to help me all while giving me amazing customer service. Even though I didn't qualify, he gave me some suggestions and tips while encouraging me to follow up with the manufacturer along with other things I could do. This is the real deal, not a scam, and not a waste of your time. Amazing!! Thank you, Jay!

  • Excellent service

Cannot speak highly enough of the service and assistance I have received from NowPatient. I was dealing with a very kind and helpful clinician who couldn't do enough to assist. He was knowledgeable about the medication being prescribed and the consultation was thorough. There were some hurdles to overcome to receive the medication overseas and nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommend.
