How does PRINIVIL work?
PRINIVIL is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor. It relaxes your blood vessels by blocking a protein (called ACE) from squeezing your blood vessels.
How do I take PRINIVIL?
PRINIVIL is typically started at 5 mg to 10 mg by mouth once daily, depending on whether or not you’re also taking a water pill. The typical maintenance dose ranges from 20 mg to 40 mg once daily. Your child’s provider will determine your child’s dose based on their body weight.
Is it safe for me to take PRINIVIL?
PRINIVIL is a safe and effective treatment when used for FDA licensed indications. However, like all medications, they may give you unwanted side effects. You should always discuss potential side effects with your physician to ensure the medication is suitable and right for you. You should not use this medication if you are hypersensitive to this product and have a history of angioedema related to previous treatment with an angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor and in patients with hereditary or idiopathic angioedema.

Common side effects of PRINIVIL:
- Dizziness
- Low blood pressure
- Higher creatinine levels
- Headache
- Cough
PRINIVIL Serious Side Effects
Serious side effects are rare with PRINIVIL. Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any of the following.
- Angioedema (severe swelling): swelling of the face, arms or legs, lips, tongue, or throat
- Dangerously low blood pressure: dizziness, lightheadedness, pale skin, feeling faint
- Serious kidney problems: urinating less often than usual, swelling in your feet, ankles, or hands, unexplained weight gain
- High blood potassium levels: nausea, muscle weakness, abnormal heartbeat
- Serious liver problems: swelling of your stomach, yellowing of your skin or the whites of your eyes, confusion, dark or brown urine
- Severe allergic reaction: swelling of your lips, tongue, throat, or face, trouble breathing, rash
Effects of other drugs, drug classes and over-the-counter products on PRINIVIL
The following medications may interact with PRINIVIL:
- Diuretics: Excessive drop in blood pressure.
- Antidiabetics: Increased risk of hypoglycaemia.
- NSAIDS: Increased risk of renal impairment and loss of antihypertensive efficacy
- Dual inhibition of the renin-angiotensin system: Increased risk of renal impairment, hypotension and hyperkalemia
- Lithium: Symptoms of lithium toxicity.
- Potassium supplements/potassium-sparing diuretics: hyperkalemia
- Do not exceed doses greater than 20 mg daily of simvastatin
- mTOR inhibitors: increased risk of angioedema.
- Neprilysin inhibitors: increased risk of angioedema

Is PRINIVIL safe in pregnancy?
When used in pregnancy during the second and third trimesters, ACE inhibitors can cause injury and even death to the developing fetus. When pregnancy is detected, PRINIVIL should be discontinued as soon as possible.
