Lidoderm patches ease pain by numbing the nerves and making them less sensitive to pain. It’s a local anesthetic, meaning it only lowers pain in the area of skin directly underneath the patch.
How do I take Lidoderm?
The typical dose of Lidoderm is to apply up to 3 patches to the most painful area of skin once a day. Leave the patch(es) on for up to 12 hours a day, then remove for 12 hours.
Is it safe for me to take Lidoderm?
Lidoderm is a safe and effective treatment when used for FDA licensed indications. However, like all medications, they may give you unwanted side effects. You should always discuss potential side effects with your physician to ensure the medication is suitable and right for you. You should not use this medication if you have a known history of sensitivity to local anesthetics of the amide type, or to any other component of the product.

Lidoderm Serious Side Effects
Serious side effects are rare with Lidoderm. Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any of the following.
- Blood problems (methemoglobinemia): Seizures, loss of consciousness, fast heart beat, trouble breathing, feeling dizzy or faint, feeling tired, skin color turning blue
- Too much lidocaine in your body: Drowsiness, confusion, slow heart beat, trouble breathing, difficulty controlling muscle movements
- Serious allergic reactions: Swelling of the face, difficulty breathing, trouble speaking, throat tightening up, red and itchy rash, lightheadedness, clammy skin

The following medications may interact with Lidoderm: Antlarrhythmic Drugs: Lidoderm should be used with caution in patients receiving Class 1 antiarrhythmic drugs (such as
- tocainide andmexiletine) since the toxic effects are additive and potentially synergistic
- Local Anesthetics – When Lidoderm is used concomitantly with other products containing local anesthetic agents, the amount
- absorbed from all formulations must be considered
