Genzyme, now part of Sanofi, pioneered treatments for rare genetic diseases. The company developed enzyme replacement therapies including Cerezyme for Gaucher disease, Fabrazyme for Fabry disease, and Lumizyme for Pompe disease. Genzyme also created Lemtrada for multiple sclerosis and Thyrogen for thyroid cancer follow-up. Sanofi’s rare disease division continues Genzyme’s mission of transforming lives of patients with orphan diseases.
