What is Evorel?
Evorel is the brand name for estradiol and is available as a transdermal patch.
What dosages is Evorel available in?
Evorel is available in 4 different sizes:
- Evorel 25, Evorel 50, Evorel 75 and Evorel 100.
What is Evorel used for?
Evorel contains an estrogen (estradiol) which is a female hormone. It is used to reduce the symptoms of the menopause. It may also prevent osteoporosis (fragile bones) in women who have had the menopause and are most likely to have bone problems.
How does Evorel work?
During menopause, your body makes less estrogen, and this drop in estrogen can cause hot flashes, vaginal dryness, and bone loss. Evorel works by replacing the estrogen which can help relieve these symptoms and can protect your bones.
How do I take Evorel?
Evorel comes in 4 different sizes:
- Evorel 25, Evorel 50, Evorel 75 and Evorel 100.
- The patches need to be changed twice a week.
- Change your patch on the same two days every week.
Is it safe for me to take Evorel?
Evorel is a safe and effective treatment when used for FDA licensed indications. However, like all medications, they may give you unwanted side effects. You should always discuss potential side effects with your physician to ensure the medication is suitable and right for you. You should not use this medication in the following:
- Breast cancer
- Cancer which is sensitive to estrogens
- Unexplained vaginal bleeding
- Excessive thickening of the womb lining (endometrial hyperplasia) that is not being treated
- Blood clot in a vein (thrombosis) such as in the legs (deep venous thrombosis) or the lungs (pulmonary embolism)
- Blood clotting disorder (such as protein C, protein S or antithrombin deficiency)
- Heart attack, stroke or angina
- Liver disease and your liver function tests have not returned to normal
- A rare blood problem called “porphyria”
- Hypersensitivity to estradiol or any of the other ingredients of Evorel
- Pregnancy
Evorel Common Side Effects
Common side effects of Evorel:
- Irritated, itchy skin and rash where the patch is applied
- Breast pain
- Dizziness
- Depression
- Headache
- Feeling sick or having stomach pains
- Diarrhea
- Pain, including pain in joints
- Break through bleeding, spotting or periods
- Weight gain
Evorel Serious Side Effects
Serious side effects are rare with . Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any of the following:
- Sudden swelling of the face or throat which may cause difficulty in swallowing or
- Breathing
- Blood clots (thrombosis), a heart attack or stroke
- Yellowing of the skin or whites of the eyes (jaundice), or other liver problems
- Migraine-type headaches
- Increases in blood pressure
- Breast or ovarian cancer, endometrial cancer or hyperplasia
Effects of other drugs, drug classes and over-the-counter products on Evorel
The following medications may interact with Evorel:
- Anticonvulsants (e.g. phenobarbital, phenytoin, carbamazepine)
- Anti-infectives (e.g. rifampicin, rifabutin, nevirapine, efavirenz)
- Ritonavir
- Nelfinavir
- St. John’s Wort

Is Evorel safe in pregnancy?
Evorel is not indicated during pregnancy. If pregnancy occurs during use of Evorel, treatment should be withdrawn immediately.
