What is ADOXA used for?
ADOXA is a tetracycline antibiotic that is used to treat bacterial infections such as respiratory tract infections, including in the nose, throat, and lungs; Infections caused by ticks, mites, or fleas (Rocky Mountain spotted fever or typhus fever); sexually-transmitted infections (STIs) like chlamydia, gonorrhea, chancroid, and syphilis; lyme disease, urinary tract infections (UTIs), severe acne, anthrax plague or cholera.
How does ADOXA work?
ADOXA is a tetracycline antibiotic that prevents some bacteria and parasites from making certain proteins, which stops them from multiplying and spreading in your body.
How do I take ADOXA?
ADOXA is typically taken by mouth once or twice daily, depending on how serious your infection is.
Is it safe for me to take ADOXA?
ADOXA is a safe and effective treatment when used for FDA licensed indications. However, like all medications, they may give you unwanted side effects. You should always discuss potential side effects with your physician to ensure the medication is suitable and right for you.
ADOXA Common Side Effects
Common side effects of ADOXA include:
- Stomach upset

ADOXA Serious Side Effects
Serious side effects are rare with ADOXA. Contact your physician if you experience severe diarrhea, watery or bloody stools, stomach cramps, stomach pain, fever, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, high pressure in your brain (headache, dizziness, blurred vision, swelling inside eye, vision changes, double vision, vision loss), severe allergic reaction (itchy red rash (hives), trouble breathing, chest tightness, swelling of lips, tongue, face, or eyes), or serious skin reactions (fever, chills, muscle aches, tiredness, rash, blistering or peeling skin).

- antacids or other drugs containing aluminum, calcium, magnesium
- warfarin
- alcohol
- barbiturates
- carbamazepine
- phenytoin
- penicillin

Is ADOXA safe in pregnancy?
It is not known if ADOXA will harm your unborn baby. It should not be used in pregnant women unless, in the judgment of the physician, the potential benefit outweighs the risk. Tetracyclines such as ADOXA may cause discoloration of baby teeth and reversible inhibition of bone growth when given during the second and third trimester of pregnancy.
