Ziextenzo is the brand name for pegfilgrastim-bmez and is available as a subcutaneous injection.

Ziextenzo is available as 6 mg/0.6 mL solution in a single-dose prefilled syringe.

Ziextenzo is used to prevent infections in people with certain cancers receiving anticancer medications that can cause low white blood cells (or febrile neutropenia).

Ziextenzo is a granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF). It works like the G-CSF protein that you naturally have in your body. G-CSF stimulates (triggers) your bone marrow to make neutrophils, a type of white blood cell that helps your body fight infections.

Ziextenzo is typically dosed as follows:

• 6 mg given subcutaneously once per chemotherapy cycle
• Do not administer between 14 days before and 24 hours after administration of cytotoxic chemotherapy
• Use weight based dosing for pediatric patients weighing less than 45 kg

Ziextenzo is a safe and effective treatment when used for FDA licensed indications. However, like all medications, they may give you unwanted side effects. You should always discuss potential side effects with your physician to ensure the medication is suitable and right for you. You should not use this medication in the following:

• Patients with a history of serious allergic reactions to human granulocyte colony-stimulating factors such as pegfilgrastim products or filgrastim products

Common side effects of Ziextenzo:

• Bone pain
• Pain in the extremities

Serious side effects are rare with Ziextenzo. Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any of the following:

• Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS): shortness of breath or trouble breathing
• Ruptured spleen: pain in your left upper stomach or shoulder
• Serious allergic reaction: rash, trouble breathing, swelling of your tongue, lips, or throat

There are no major drug interactions listed for this medication. However, always let your physician and pharmacist know about any other medications or supplements (including prescribed and over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and dietary or herbal supplements) that you are currently taking.
