VICTOZA Uses, Side Effects, Interactions, Warnings & Dosing
What is VICTOZA?
VICTOZA is the brand name for liraglutide and is available as a subcutaneous injection.
What dosages is VICTOZA available in?
VICTOZA is available as a 6 mg/mL solution in a pre-filled, single-patient-use pen that delivers doses of 0.6 mg, 1.2 mg, or 1.8 mg.
What is VICTOZA used for?
VICTOZA is a GLP-1 agonist and is used for the following:
- Type 2 diabetes in people age 10 and older, in addition to diet and exercise
- Lowering the risk of major heart-related problems (like heart attack) in adults with Type 2 diabetes and heart disease
How does VICTOZA work?
VICTOZA is a glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist, or GLP-1 agonist for short. It attaches to proteins in your body called GLP-1 receptors. Once attached, the medication tells your body to release more insulin. It also helps stop the body from releasing more sugar and slow down digestion. All three actions of VICTOZA help lower blood sugar levels.
How do I take VICTOZA?
VICTOZA is injected under the skin on the stomach, thigh, or back of the upper arm. The typical starting dose is 0.6 mg once daily. After at least 1 week at the starting dose, your provider might raise the dose to 1.2 mg once daily. If you need additional blood sugar control, your provider can raise the dose again to 1.8 mg once daily.
Is it safe for me to take VICTOZA?
VICTOZA is a safe and effective treatment when used for FDA licensed indications. However, like all medications, they may give you unwanted side effects.
