upadacitinib is a janus kinase (JAK) inhibitor. It blocks the JAK enzyme (protein) that plays a role in your immune system to cause inflammation. By blocking this enzyme, upadacitinib is thought to calm down your immune system to relieve symptoms of arthritis and certain inflammatory conditions.

upadacitinib is typically dosed as follows:

  • All approved types of arthritis (RA, PsA, AS, and nr-axSpA): The typical dose is 15 mg by mouth once a day
  • Eczema: The typical dose is 15 mg by mouth once a day. If you’re between the ages of 12 and 65 and weigh at least 88 lbs, your provider might raise your dose to 30 mg once a day if you’re not seeing an improvement in your symptoms
  • Ulcerative colitis: The typical starting dose is 45 mg by mouth once a day for 8 weeks. Then, the recommended maintenance dose is 15 mg once a day thereafter. But if you’re not seeing an improvement in your symptoms and your UC is severe, your provider might raise your maintenance dose to 30 mg once a day
  • Crohn’s disease: The typical starting dose is 45 mg by mouth once a day for 12 weeks. Then, the recommended maintenance dose is 15 mg once a day thereafter. But if you’re not seeing an improvement in your symptoms and your CD is severe, your provider might raise your maintenance dose to 30 mg once a day

Your dose might differ if you have kidney or liver problems.
