How do I take Trintellix?
Trintellix is typically started at 10 mg by mouth once daily. The maximum dose is 20 mg by mouth per day.

Is it safe for me to take Trintellix?
Trintellix is a safe and effective treatment when used for FDA licensed indications. However, like all medications, they may give you unwanted side effects. You should always discuss potential side effects with your physician to ensure the medication is suitable and right for you. If you have any of the following conditions or if any of the following apply to you, let your healthcare provider know because Trintellix will not be safe for you to take. Taking a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) within 21 days of Trintellix.

Common side effects of Trintellix:
- Nausea
- Diarrhea
- Dizziness
- Dry mouth
- Vomiting
- Constipation
Trintellix Serious Side Effects
Serious side effects are rare with Trintellix. Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any of the following.
- Suicidal thoughts and behavior
- Serotonin syndrome: fast heart rate, sweating, muscle stiffness or spasms, fever, confusion
- Very low levels of sodium (hyponatremia): nausea, vomiting, headache, memory problems, confusion, muscle weakness or cramps, low blood pressure
- Serious bleeding: dizziness, pale skin, feeling weak, bleeding that’s difficult to stop, bruising that won’t go away, vomiting blood, black and tarry stool
Effects of other drugs, drug classes and over-the-counter products on Trintellix
The following medications may interact with Trintellix:
- Strong inhibitors of CYP2D6: Reduce Trintellix dose by half when a strong CYP2D6 inhibitor (e.g., bupropion, fluoxetine paroxetine, or quinidine) is coadministered
- Strong CYP Inducers: Consider increasing Trintellix dose when a strong CYP inducer (e.g., rifampin, carbamazepine, or phenytoin) is coadministered for more than 14 days. The maximum recommended dose should not exceed 3 times the original dose

Is Trintellix safe in pregnancy?
It is not known if Trintellix will harm your unborn baby. Taking Trintellix while pregnant in your third trimester may cause your newborn baby to have withdrawal symptoms that causes a certain type of breathing problem called Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension of the Newborn (PPHN).
