Toujeo is the brand name for insulin glargine subcutaneous injection.

Toujeo is available as a 1.5 mL Toujeo SoloStar single-patient-use prefilled pen and a 3 mL Toujeo Max SoloStar single-patient-use prefilled pen.

Toujeo is an insulin used to treat:

• Type 1 diabetes
• Type 2 diabetes

Toujeo is an insulin, which is a hormone your body normally makes to lower glucose (sugar) levels in the blood. It helps your body absorb sugar from your bloodstream and store it for energy. Insulins also stop your liver from making glucose.

Your prescriber will work with you to find the dose that works best for you. Your dose depends on many things, such as whether you have Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes, your blood sugar levels, and your weight.

• Toujeo is injected under the skin in the stomach, thigh, or upper arm once per day
• Type 1 diabetes and first time using insulin: Your prescriber will calculate your total daily insulin (TDI) requirement. The typical starting dose is about a third to a half of your TDI requirement, injected under the skin once per day
• Type 2 diabetes and first time using insulin: Your prescriber will calculate your dose based on your body weight. The typical starting dose is 0.2 units/kg (up to 10 units) injected under the skin once per day

Toujeo is a safe and effective treatment when used for FDA licensed indications. However, like all medications, they may give you unwanted side effects. You should always discuss potential side effects with your physician to ensure the medication is suitable and right for you. You should not use this medication if you have symptoms of low blood sugar.

Common side effects of Toujeo:

• Low blood sugar
• Common cold symptoms
• Infection involving the nose, throat, and lungs

Serious side effects are rare with Toujeo. Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any of the following.

• Severely low blood sugar: feeling shaky, nervous or anxious; fast heartbeat; sweating; body chills; confusion; feeling sleepy; weakness or low energy, excessive hunger
• Severely low potassium levels: weakness, muscle cramps or twitches, constipation, irregular heartbeat
• Severe allergic reaction: rash; hives; swelling of face, tongue, and throat; trouble breathing

The following medications may interact with Toujeo:

• Drugs that Affect Glucose Metabolism: Adjustment of insulin dosage may be needed
• Antiadrenergic Drugs (e.g., beta-blockers, clonidine, guanethidine, and reserpine): Signs and symptoms of hypoglycemia may be reduced or absent

It is not known if Toujeo will harm your unborn baby. Tell your healthcare provider if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant while using Toujeo.
