- Symptoms similar to neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS): very high fevers, irregular pulse, sweating, muscle stiffness, confusion, changes in blood pressure
Effects of other drugs, drug classes and over-the-counter products on tolcapone
The following medications may interact with tolcapone:
- Drugs Metabolized by Catechol-O-Methyltransferase (COMT): tolcapone may influence the pharmacokinetics of drugs metabolized by COMT. A dose reduction of such compounds should be considered when they are co-administered with tolcapone.
- Due to its affinity to cytochrome P450 2C9 in vitro, tolcapone may interfere with drugs whose clearance is dependent on this metabolic pathway, such as tolbutamide and warfarin
