TASMAR Uses, Side Effects, Interactions, Warnings & Dosing
What is TASMAR?
TASMAR is the brand name for tolcapone and is available as an oral tablet.
What dosages is TASMAR available in?
TASMAR is available as a 100 mg oral tablet.
What is TASMAR used for?
TASMAR is a COMT inhibitor and is used to treat parkinson’s disease (PD); as add-on treatment to carbidopa/levodopa.
How does TASMAR work?
TASMAR is a catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) inhibitor. It blocks the activity of the protein, COMT, which results in more stable levels of levodopa.
How do I take TASMAR?
The starting dose is 100 mg by mouth three times a day.
Is it safe for me to take TASMAR?
TASMAR is a safe and effective treatment when used for FDA licensed indications. However, like all medications, they may give you unwanted side effects. You should always discuss potential side effects with your physician to ensure the medication is suitable and right for you. You should not use this medication if you have liver disease, a history of nontraumatic
rhabdomyolysis or hyperpyrexia and confusion possibly related to medication.

Effects of other drugs, drug classes and over-the-counter products on TASMAR
The following medications may interact with TASMAR:
- Drugs Metabolized by Catechol-O-Methyltransferase (COMT): TASMAR may influence the pharmacokinetics of drugs metabolized by COMT. A dose reduction of such compounds should be considered when they are co-administered with TASMAR.
- Due to its affinity to cytochrome P450 2C9 in vitro, TASMAR may interfere with drugs whose clearance is dependent on this metabolic pathway, such as tolbutamide and warfarin
