TIMOPTIC OCUDOSE

Preservative-free TIMOPTIC in OCUDOSE is prescribed for patients with ocular hypertension or open-angle glaucoma to reduce high intraocular pressure in the eyes.

Timolol ophthalmic is available in various dosage forms including ophthalmic gel forming solution and ophthalmic solution. It is marketed under brand names such as Betimol, Istalol, Timoptic, Timoptic Ocudose, and Timoptic-XE.

Latanoprost ophthalmic is available in the form of ophthalmic solution. It is marketed under brand names such as Iyuzeh, Xalatan, and Xelpros.

TIMOPTIC (timolol maleate ophthalmic solution), in concentrations of 0.25 percent and 0.5 percent, is currently included in the “Discontinued Drug Product List” section of the Orange Book.

Preservative-free timolol maleate ophthalmic solution USP (timoptic ocudose) is contradincated in patients who have greater than 1st-degree AV block, uncompensated cardiac failure, cardiogenic shock or sinus bradycardia.

If you experience any of the following symptoms while taking Timolol, it is important to consult your doctor immediately: chest pain or discomfort, dilated neck veins, extreme fatigue, irregular breathing, an irregular heartbeat, swelling of the face, fingers, feet, or lower legs, weight gain, or difficulty breathing.

Typically, timolol eye drops are used indefinitely. However, if they are not providing sufficient results, your doctor may suggest alternative treatments or prescribe additional medications alongside timolol eye drops.

Cause of Shortage Bausch Health ceased production of Timoptic-XE ophthalmic gel forming solution in July 2023, and discontinued timolol ophthalmic gel forming solution in September 2020.

Timolol, also known as Timoptic® in Ocudose®, can be prescribed by your doctor if you are sensitive to the preservative benzalkonium chloride found in Timoptic®, or if you require preservative-free eye drops. This medication is only available with a prescription and comes in the form of a solution.

TIMOPTIC 0.5% solution includes 5 mg of timolol (equivalent to 6.8 mg of timolol maleate) per mL. The inactive ingredients are monobasic and dibasic sodium phosphate, sodium hydroxide for pH adjustment, and purified water. Additionally, it contains 0.01% benzalkonium chloride as a preservative.

Iyuzeh, a latanoprost ophthalmic solution with a concentration of 0.005%, was approved by the FDA in December 2022. This approval is specifically for patients diagnosed with open-angle glaucoma (OAG) or ocular hypertension (OHT).

Dorzolamide ophthalmic is available as Trusopt, latanoprost ophthalmic is available as Iyuzeh, Xalatan, and Xelpros, and lumigan (bimatoprost) is available as Durysta. All are available in ophthalmic solution dosage form.

Do not use brimonidine ophthalmic if you have a known allergy to it. Inform your doctor about any history of heart problems, circulation problems, or coronary artery disease (clogged arteries).

Eye drops containing BAK, despite their advantages such as being amphipathic, highly water soluble, and having strong antimicrobial effects, have been linked to various negative effects on the eyes. These include dry eye, degeneration of the trabecular meshwork, and inflammation in the eyes.
