Thyrogen is the brand name for thyrotropin alfa and is available as an intramuscular injection.

Thyrogen is available as 0.9 mg of thyrotropin alfa in a single-dose vial.

Thyrogen is a thyroid stimulating hormone that is used to check your body for the return of thyroid cancer after treatment. It is also used to help treat thyroid cancer.

Thyrogen works by measuring the level of a substance in your body (thyroglobulin) that is produced if cancer cells are present. For thyroid cancer, it helps thyroid tissue cells take up radioactive iodine, which slows or stops the spread of cancer cells.

A two-injection regimen is recommended:

• Thyrogen 0.9 mg is administered intramuscularly,
• Followed by a second 0.9 mg intramuscular injection 24 hours later.

Thyrogen is a safe and effective treatment when used for FDA licensed indications. However, like all medications, they may give you unwanted side effects.
