Temsirolimus is a kinase inhibitor indicated for the treatment of advanced renal cell carcinoma.
How does Temsirolimus work?
Temsirolimus is a kinase inhibitor which inhibits the mTOR kinase. A kinase is an enzyme that promotes cell growth. There are many types of kinases, which control different phases of cell growth. By blocking a particular enzyme from working, this medication can slow the growth of cancer cells.
How do I take Temsirolimus?
The recommended dose of Temsirolimus is 25 mg administered as an intravenous infusion over a 30–60 minute period once a week. Treat until disease progression or unacceptable toxicity. Pre-treatment with an antihistamine is recommended.
Is it safe for me to take Temsirolimus?
Temsirolimus is a safe and effective treatment when used for FDA licensed indications. However, like all medications, they may give you unwanted side effects. You should always discuss potential side effects with your physician to ensure the medication is suitable and right for you. You should not use this medication in the following:
- Patients with bilirubin > 1.5×ULN
