Sofpironium is an anticholinergic indicated for the treatment of underarm hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) in adults and pediatric patients 9 years of age and older.
How does Sofpironium work?
Sofpironium is an anticholinergic that works by blocking acetylcholine receptors found on the sweat glands located in the armpit. Acetylcholine stimulates sweat production, so by blocking it, Sofpironium prevents the stimulation of these receptors and reduce sweating.
How do I take Sofpironium?
One pump of Sofpironium is applied to each underarm once a day at bedtime.
Is it safe for me to take Sofpironium?
Sofpironium is a safe and effective treatment when used for FDA approved indications. However, like all medications, they may give you unwanted side effects. You should always discuss potential side effects with your physician to ensure the medication is suitable and right for you. You should not use this medication if you have medical conditions that can be worsened by the anticholinergic effect of Sofpironium, including glaucoma, paralytic ileus, unstable cardiovascular status in acute hemorrhage, severe ulcerative colitis, toxic megacolon complicating ulcerative colitis, myasthenia gravis, and Sjögren ‘s syndrome.
