RELAFEN is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It blocks the inflammatory process in your body, which relieves pain and swelling.

RELAFEN is typically started at 1 gram by mouth taken as a single dose. For additional pain relief, you may need a higher dose of 1.5 grams or 2 grams per day (can be taken as a single dose or divided into a twice-daily dose).

RELAFEN is a safe and effective treatment when used for FDA licensed indications. However, like all medications, they may give you unwanted side effects. You should always discuss potential side effects with your physician to ensure the medication is suitable and right for you. You should not use this medication if you have a known hypersensitivity to RELAFEN or any components of the drug product, a history of asthma, urticaria, or other allergic-type reactions after taking aspirin or other NSAIDs, pain from a CABG surgery.

    RELAFEN Serious Side Effects

    Serious side effects are rare with RELAFEN. Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any of the following.

    Liver problems: nausea, fatigue, diarrhea, yellowing of skin or whites of the eyes
    Kidney problems: irregular heartbeat, shortness of breath, poor urine output, confusion, weakness
    Heart attack: chest pain, sweating, shortness of breath, pain or discomfort in jaw, neck, or shoulders
    Gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding: black or tarry stool, dizziness, stomach pain or discomfort
    Serious allergic reactions: hives, swelling of face, tongue, or throat, difficulty breathing
    Serious skin reactions: flu-like symptoms, painful rash or blisters all over body, peeling of skin
    Stroke: weakness on one side of the body, slurred speech, loss of balance, confusion
    Heart failure: shortness of breath, swelling or fluid buildup in ankles, feet, or legs, cough

    Effects of other drugs, drug classes and over-the-counter products on RELAFEN

    The following medications may interact with RELAFEN:

  • Drugs that Interfere with Hemostasis (e.g., warfarin, aspirin, SSRIs/SNRIs): Monitor patients for bleeding who are concomitantly
  • taking MOBIC with drugs that interfere with hemostasis. Concomitant use of MOBIC and analgesic doses of aspirin is not generally recommended.
  • ACE Inhibitors, Angiotensin Receptor Blockers (ARBs) or BetaBlockers: Concomitant use with MOBIC may diminish the antihypertensive effect of these drugs. Monitor blood pressure.
  • ACE Inhibitors and ARBs: Concomitant use with MOBIC in elderly, volume-depleted, or those with renal impairment may result in
  • deterioration of renal function.
  • Diuretics: NSAIDs can reduce natriuretic effect of furosemide and thiazide diuretics. Monitor patients to assure diuretic efficacy including antihypertensive effects.
