Rekambys is the brand name for rilpivirine and is available as a prolonged-release suspension for injection.

Rekambys is available as a 3 mL vial containing 900 mg of rilpivirine and a 2 mL vial containing 600 mg of rilpivirine.

What is Rekambys used for?

Rekambys is an antiretroviral used in combination with Vocabria (cabotegravir) to treat HIV-1 infection in adults and adolescents.

How does Rekambys work?

Rekambys is a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI) that blocks an enzyme HIV uses to replicate, thereby helping to control the virus in the blood.

How do I take Rekambys?

Rekambys is a long-acting injectable medicine for the treatment of HIV-1, used in combination with injectable Vocabria (cabotegravir). The dosing schedule is administered by a healthcare professional as intramuscular injections into the gluteal muscle and can be either monthly or every two months.

Is it safe for me to take Rekambys?

Rekambys is a safe and effective treatment when used for FDA licensed indications. However, like all medications, they may give you unwanted side effects. You should always discuss potential side effects with your physician to ensure the medication is suitable and right for you. You should not use this medication in the following:

  • Hypersensitivity to rilpivirine or to any of the excipients
  • Taking certain anticonvulsants (carbamazepine, oxcarbazepine, phenobarbital, phenytoin), antimycobacterials (rifabutin, rifampicin, rifapentine), dexamethasone, and St John’s wort
