PREZCOBIX Uses, Side Effects, Interactions, Warnings & Dosing
What is PREZCOBIX?
PREZCOBIX is the brand name for darunavir and cobicistat and is available as an oral tablet.
What dosages is PREZCOBIX available in?
PREZCOBIX is available as an oral tablet that contains 800 mg of darunavir and 150 mg of cobicistat.
What is PREZCOBIX used for?
- PREZCOBIX is a combination of 2 medications that are used in the treatment of HIV infection in adults and children weighing at least 88 pounds
How does PREZCOBIX work?
PREZCOBIX is a combination of two medications:
Darunavir is a protease inhibitor, which means it blocks a protein called protease. Normally, protease helps process viral proteins so that HIV can infect healthy cells. By blocking protease from working, darunavir prevents the virus from making copies of itself and spreading. Cobicistat is a “booster” medication. It slows down your body from breaking down other HIV ARVs like darunavir. This “boosts” the levels of darunavir and other HIV ARVs in the body. It also makes them last longer in the body. This helps darunavir and other HIV ARVs work better to fight the infection.
How do I take PREZCOBIX?
- PREZCOBIX is typically taken as 1 tablet by mouth once daily with food
Is it safe for me to take PREZCOBIX?
PREZCOBIX is a safe and effective treatment when used for FDA licensed indications. However, like all medications, they may give you unwanted side effects. You should always discuss potential side effects with your physician to ensure the medication is suitable and right for you. PREZCOBIX is contraindicated in patients receiving certain co-administered drugs for which altered plasma concentrations are associated with serious and/or life threatening events or loss of therapeutic effect.
