By blocking protease from working, darunavir prevents the virus from making copies of itself and spreading. Cobicistat is a “booster” medication. It slows down your body from breaking down other HIV ARVs like darunavir. This “boosts” the levels of darunavir and other HIV ARVs in the body. It also makes them last longer in the body. This helps darunavir and other HIV ARVs work better to fight the infection.
