How does PERMITIL work?
PERMITIL is a typical antipsychotic. It works by blocking dopamine activity in your brain, which affects your thoughts and mood.
How do I take PERMITIL?
PERMITIL is typically taken in dose ranges from 2.5 mg to 10 mg by mouth daily, split into 3 or 4 doses throughout the day (every 6-8 hours). Your provider might adjust your dose based on how you respond to the medication.
Is it safe for me to take PERMITIL?
PERMITIL is a safe and effective treatment when used for FDA licensed indications. However, like all medications, they may give you unwanted side effects. You should always discuss potential side effects with your physician to ensure the medication is suitable and right for you. You should not use this medication if you have suspected or established subcortical brain damage, in patients receiving large doses of hypnotics, and in comatose or severely depressed states. The presence of blood dyscrasia or liver damage precludes the use of PERMITIL.

- Dystonia (uncontrollable muscle contractions): neck spasms, difficulty swallowing and breathing, sticking your tongue out
- Involuntary movements (especially of the face or mouth)
- Changes in blood pressure
- Weight changes
- Fluid retention (holding onto fluid)
- Nausea
- Constipation
- Loss of appetite
- Dry mouth
- Headache
- Salivation, drooling
- More sweating
- Frequent urination
PERMITIL Serious Side Effects
Serious side effects are rare with PERMITIL. Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any of the following.
- Neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS): high fever, fast heart rate, full body stiffness, confusion
- Serious infection: fever, pale skin, fast heart rate, lightheadedness, feeling unwell
- Serious allergic reaction: trouble breathing, throat tightness, hives, swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat
