OFEV is a tyrosine kinase inhibitor and is used for the following:
- Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis
- Progressive fibrosing ILD
- Systemic sclerosis-associated ILD
How does OFEV work?
OFEV is a tyrosine kinase inhibitor, meaning it blocks a protein called tyrosine kinase. This protein is involved in making scar tissue in your lungs. By blocking its activity, OFEV can treat scarring in the lungs from certain types of interstitial lung disease. This helps lower the lung symptoms you have, such as shortness of breath and cough.
How do I take OFEV?
- OFEV is typically dosed as 150 mg taken by mouth twice daily, 12 hours apart
- Your dose will be different if you have liver problems

OFEV Serious Side Effects
Serious side effects are rare with OFEV. Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any of the following.
- Liver problems or liver failure: yellowing of your skin or the whites of your eyes, confusion, fatigue, low appetite, nausea, stomach discomfort, vomiting
- Heart attack: chest pain, short of breath, pain in the jaw, neck, or back, feeling weak or light-headed
- Blood clots in other parts of the body: chest pain, difficulty breathing, weakness, numbness or tingling sensation in arms and legs
- Serious bleeds: bleeds that are difficult to stop, bruises that don’t go away, weakness, tiredness, headaches, dizziness, bloody stool or blood in the urine
- Severe damage to stomach or intestines: sudden and severe pain or tenderness in stomach area, bloating, nausea, vomiting, bleeding in the rectum, change in appetite
Effects of other drugs, drug classes and over-the-counter products on OFEV
The following medications may interact with OFEV:
- Coadministration of P-gp and CYP3A4 inhibitors may increase nintedanib exposure
- Monitor patients closely for tolerability of OFEV

Is OFEV safe in pregnancy?
Based on findings from animal studies and its mechanism of action, OFEV can cause fetal harm when administered to a pregnant woman. You should avoid becoming pregnant while receiving treatment with OFEV and use highly effective contraception at initiation of, during treatment, and at least 3 months after the last dose of OFEV.
