Novolin 70/30 is is a mixture of two types of insulin:

• 70% insulin NPH (isophane insulin) and 30% insulin regular and is available as for subcutaneous use.

Novolin 70/30 is available as 100 units/mL (U-100) in a 10 mL multiple-dose vial and 3 mL single-patient-use FlexPen.

Novolin 70/30 contains two types of insulin and is used to treat Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes in adults and children.

Novolin 70/30 has two types of insulin:

• 70% insulin NPH (or “isophane insulin”) and 30% insulin regular. It helps your body absorb and store sugar from the bloodstream after a meal. Insulin also stops your liver from making glucose (sugar).

Your dose of Novolin 70/30 will be based on several factors, such as your blood sugar levels and your body weight. Typically, Novolin 70/30 is injected under the skin about 30 minutes before a meal. It is usually used twice per day.

Novolin 70/30 is a safe and effective treatment when used for FDA licensed indications. However, like all medications, they may give you unwanted side effects. You should always discuss potential side effects with your physician to ensure the medication is suitable and right for you. You should not use this medication in the following:

• During episodes of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia)

Common side effects of Novolin 70/30:

• Low blood sugar
• Injection site reactions
• Weight gain
• Swelling
• Fat deposits under the skin or pitting of the skin where the medication is injected

Serious side effects are rare with Novolin 70/30. Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any of the following:

• Severely low blood sugar: dizziness, shakiness, feeling confused, feeling irritable or anxious, feeling faint, sweating, extreme hunger, can’t think clearly
• Dangerously low potassium levels: weakness, muscle cramps or twitches, constipation, abnormal heartbeat, tiredness, trouble breathing
• Severe allergic reaction: rash; hives; swelling of the face, tongue, and throat; trouble breathing

The following medications may interact with Novolin 70/30:

• Drugs that affect glucose levels
• Antiadrenergic drugs (e.g., beta-blockers, clonidine, guanethidine, and reserpine)
