Neulasta is the brand name for pegfilgrastim and is available as a subcutaneous injection.

Neulasta is available as a 6 mg/0.6 mL solution in a single-dose prefilled syringe.

Neulasta is a colony-stimulating factor used to:

• Prevent infections in people with certain cancers receiving anticancer medications that can cause low white blood cells (or febrile neutropenia)
• Increase survival in people exposed to bone marrow-suppressing radiation

Neulasta is a leukocyte growth factor. It works like the G-CSF protein that you naturally have in your body. G-CSF stimulates (triggers) your bone marrow to make neutrophils, a type of white blood cell that helps your body fight infections.

Neulasta is typically dosed as follows:

• People receiving bone marrow-suppressing chemotherapy
• Adults and children weighing 99 lbs or more: The typical dose is 6 mg injected under the skin (subcutaneously) once per chemotherapy cycle.
• Children who weigh less than 99 lbs: Dosing will depend on the child’s weight.
• People exposed to bone marrow-suppressing radiation
• Adults and children weighing 99 lbs or more The typical dose is 6 mg injected under the skin as soon as possible, followed by another 6 mg one week later.
• Children who weigh less than 99 lbs: Dosing will depend on the child’s weight.

Neulasta is a safe and effective treatment when used for FDA licensed indications. However, like all medications, they may give you unwanted side effects. You should always discuss potential side effects with your physician to ensure the medication is suitable and right for you. You should not use this medication in the following:

• History of serious hypersensitivity reaction to pegfilgrastim or filgrastim

Common side effects of Neulasta:

• Bone pain
• Pain in arms and legs

Serious side effects are rare with Neulasta. Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any of the following:

• Shortness of breath or trouble breathing
• Ruptured spleen: pain in your left upper stomach or shoulder
• Serious allergic reaction: rash, trouble breathing, swelling of your tongue, lips, or throat
