Mycapssa is a somatostatin analog indicated for long-term maintenance treatment in acromegaly patients who have responded to and tolerated treatment with octreotide or lanreotide.

Mycapssa is a somatostatin analog. This means it acts just like the somatostatin hormone your body makes. Somatostatin blocks many other hormones from releasing in your body. This includes growth hormone (GH). Mycapssa helps treat acromegaly by blocking your body from releasing too much GH.

The typical starting dose of Mycapssa is 20 mg by mouth twice daily on an empty stomach (at least 1 hour before a meal or at least 2 hours after a meal). Your dose may be increased depending on your IGF-1 levels and your symptoms. The maximum dose is 40 mg twice daily.

Mycapssa is a safe and effective treatment when used for FDA licensed indications. However, like all medications, they may give you unwanted side effects. You should always discuss potential side effects with your physician to ensure the medication is suitable and right for you. You should not use this medication in the following:

• Hypersensitivity to octreotide or any of the components of the product

Common side effects of Mycapssa:

• Dangerously low blood sugar: feeling faint, shaking, sweating, dizziness, fast heartbeat, nervousness, anxious, confused, irritable, feeling very hungry
• Dangerously high blood sugar: feeling thirsty often, needing to urinate often, feeling tired, nausea, vomiting, difficulty breathing, fruity breath, dry mouth
