Lyumjev is a type of mealtime insulin that contains the same active ingredient as Humalog (insulin lispro) injection, which is 100 units/mL. However, Lyumjev is specifically formulated to facilitate rapid absorption of insulin into the bloodstream. It also includes additional ingredients not found in Humalog.

Possible side effects include allergic reactions, skin thickening or pits at the injection or infusion site, rash, and weight gain.

The Medtronic MiniMed 780G System, which has received FDA approval, is another new update in insulin pumps for 2023. It is compatible with the advanced Medtronic Guardian 4 sensors, which eliminate the need for fingersticks. This significant upgrade greatly enhances the sensor system.

Toujeo, another form of insulin glargine, has a longer duration of more than 24 hours. Insulin degludec, known as Tresiba, has the longest duration of action lasting up to 42 hours.

Which is better, Humalog or Novolog? Both Humalog and Novolog are rapid-acting insulins that are effective in managing blood sugar levels. They are administered in the same manner and have similar side effects, such as the risk of hypoglycemia. However, Novolog has a slightly faster onset of action and is intended to be taken 5 to 10 minutes before meals.

The U-100 rapid-acting insulin analogs that have been tested and deemed safe for use in the Pod are NovoLog®, Humalog®, Fiasp®, Admelog®, Lyumjev®, and Apidra®. Among these, Novolog®/NovoRapid®, Humalog®, Fiasp®, Admelog®, and Lyumjev® can be used with the Omnipod DASH® System for up to 72 hours (3 days).

The duration of action is directly proportional to the amount injected, meaning that a higher dosage will result in a longer duration of effect.

Lyumjev begins to take effect quickly. It is recommended to take Lyumjev either with your first bite of food or within 20 minutes after starting your meal in order to lower your blood sugar levels. To store unused Pens, keep them in the refrigerator between 36°F to 46°F (2°C to 8°C). It is important not to freeze LYUMJEV and to avoid using it if it has been frozen. You can use unused Pens until the expiration date mentioned on the label, as long as they have been stored in the refrigerator.
