Leucovorin Calcium is available as a 15 mg oral tablet.

Leucovorin Calcium is used as an antidote to folic acid antagonists such as methotrexate and in the treatment of megaloblastic anemia.

Leucovorin Calcium is a form of folate (or folic acid) that helps reverse the toxic effects of methotrexate and other anti-folate medications.

Leucovorin Calcium is typically dosed as follows:

• Antidote: 15mg (1 tablet) every 6 hours for 48 hours. Leucovorin Calcium for leucovorin rescue therapy is usually started 24 hours after the start of methotrexate treatment.
• Megaloblastic anaemia: 15mg (1 tablet) once daily.

Leucovorin Calcium is a safe and effective treatment when used for FDA licensed indications. However, like all medications, they may give you unwanted side effects. You should always discuss potential side effects with your physician to ensure the medication is suitable and right for you. You should not use this medication in the following:

• Allergic to Leucovorin Calcium or any of the other ingredients of this medicine
• Pernicious anaemia or other megaloblastic anemia where vitamin B12 is deficient

Side effects of Leucovorin Calcium are rare.

Serious side effects are rare with Leucovorin Calcium. Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any of the following:

• Sudden wheeziness, difficulty in breathing, swelling of eyelids, face or lips, rash or itching
• Decreased white blood cell count or low platelets if Leucovorin Calcium is given with fluorouracil (to treat cancer)

The following medications may interact with Leucovorin Calcium:

• Folic acid antagonist
• Chloramphenicol
