Kogenate FS is the brand name for Antihemophilic Factor [Recombinant], formulated with sucrose and is available for IV use.

Kogenate FS is available as a single use vial containing nominally 250 IU, 500 IU, 1000 IU, 2000 IU, or 3000 IU.

Kogenate FS is a coagulation factor replacement and is used to treat or prevent bleeds in people with hemophilia A.

Kogenate FS is a clotting factor replacement for people who are missing special blood-clotting proteins called factor VIII (FVIII) due to hemophilia A. By replacing the missing clotting factor (FVIII, or antihemophilic factor) in people who naturally don’t have it, bleeding episodes can be reduced or treated.

The typical dose is 25 IU/kg given IV every other day to 3 times a week. Your provider will calculate your dose based on things like body weight, how serious your bleed is, where the bleed is, and the desired level of FVIII in your body. The dose is typically given through your veins (IV), and how often you receive it will depend on the brand.

Kogenate FS is a safe and effective treatment when used for FDA licensed indications. However, like all medications, they may give you unwanted side effects. You should always discuss potential side effects with your physician to ensure the medication is suitable and right for you. You should not use this medication if you have a life-threatening hypersensitivity reactions, including anaphylaxis to mouse or hamster protein or other constituents of the product.

• Headache
• Cough
• Sore throat, runny nose, and other symptoms of the common cold

Serious side effects are rare with Kogenate FS. Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any of the following.

• Serious allergic reaction (anaphylaxis): difficulty breathing, hives, itching, fast heartbeat, nausea, stomach pain, dizziness, lightheadedness, swelling in the face or tongue

• There are no major drug interactions listed for Kogenate FS. However, always let your physician and pharmacist know about any other medications or supplements (including prescribed and over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and dietary or herbal supplements) that you are currently taking
