KERENDIA is available as a 10 mg and 20 mg oral tablet.
What is KERENDIA used for?
KERENDIA is a mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist and is used for the following:
Lowers the risk of the following problems in adults with long-term kidney problems (also called chronic kidney disease (CKD)) associated with type 2 diabetes:
- Worsening kidney function
- Death due to heart problems
- Heart attack
- Hospitalization due to heart failure
How does KERENDIA work?
KERENDIA is a mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist. It works by stopping mineralocorticoids (e.g., aldosterone) from binding (attaching) to their receptors in your kidneys, heart, and blood vessels. This prevents inflammation and damage to your kidneys, heart, and blood vessels.
How do I take KERENDIA?
The typical dose is 10 mg to 20 mg by mouth once daily, depending on how well your kidneys work. Your provider will adjust the dose based on your blood potassium level, kidney function, and if you’re having side effects.
Is it safe for me to take KERENDIA?
KERENDIA is a safe and effective treatment when used for FDA licensed indications. However, like all medications, they may give you unwanted side effects. You should always discuss potential side effects with your physician to ensure the medication is suitable and right for you. You should not use this medication in the following.
- Concomitant use with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors
- Patients with adrenal insufficiency
KERENDIA Common Side Effects
Common side effects of KERENDIA:
- High blood potassium levels
KERENDIA Serious Side Effects
Serious side effects are rare with KERENDIA. Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any of the following.
- Low blood pressure: dizziness, tiredness, feeling faint, confusion
- Very high potassium level: nausea, chest pain, irregular heartbeat, muscle weakness, numbness and tingling
Effects of other drugs, drug classes and over-the-counter products on KERENDIA
- The following medications may interact with KERENDIA:
- Strong CYP3A4 Inhibitors: Use is contraindicated
- Grapefruit or grapefruit juice: Avoid concomitant use.
- Moderate or weak CYP3A4 Inhibitors: Monitor serum potassium during drug initiation or dosage adjustment of either KERENDIA or the moderate or weak CYP3A4 inhibitor, and adjust KERENDIA dosage as appropriate
- Strong or moderate CYP3A4 Inducers: Avoid concomitant use

It is not known if KERENDIA will harm your unborn baby. Tell your healthcare provider if you become pregnant while taking KERENDIA.
