finerenone is a mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist. It works by stopping mineralocorticoids (e.g., aldosterone) from binding (attaching) to their receptors in your kidneys, heart, and blood vessels. This prevents inflammation and damage to your kidneys, heart, and blood vessels.
How do I take finerenone?
The typical dose is 10 mg to 20 mg by mouth once daily, depending on how well your kidneys work. Your provider will adjust the dose based on your blood potassium level, kidney function, and if you’re having side effects.

- Very high potassium level: nausea, chest pain, irregular heartbeat, muscle weakness, numbness and tingling

- The following medications may interact with finerenone:
- Strong CYP3A4 Inhibitors: Use is contraindicated
- Grapefruit or grapefruit juice: Avoid concomitant use.
- Moderate or weak CYP3A4 Inhibitors: Monitor serum potassium during drug initiation or dosage adjustment of either finerenone or the moderate or weak CYP3A4 inhibitor, and adjust finerenone dosage as appropriate
- Strong or moderate CYP3A4 Inducers: Avoid concomitant use
