What is Jynarque?

Jynarque is the brand name for tolvaptan and is available in tablet form.

What dosages is Jynarque available in?

Jynarque is available as a 15mg, 30mg, 45mg and 90mg tablet.

What is Jynarque used for?

Jynarque is a vasopressin V2 receptor antagonist that is used to slow the kidney function decline in adults who are at risk of rapidly progressing autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD).

How does Jynarque work?

Jynarque works by targeting the hormone vasopressin which is elevated in people with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD). Vasopressin can cause cysts (fluid-filled sacs) to grow. Therefore by targetting this hormone, the progression of cysts is reduced and this slows kidney function decline.

How do I take Jynarque?

Jynarque is a taken orally, twice a day. The starting dose for Jynarque is 60 mg/day (splite between 45mg upon waking and 15mg after 8 hours). Your nephrologist may increase your dosage for optimal therapeutic dosing. Normally, the first dose is taken when you wake up, and the second dose is taken 8 hours later.

Is it safe for me to take Jynarque?

Jynarque is a safe and effective treatment when used for FDA licensed indications. However, Jynarque can cause serious liver problems that can lead to the need for a liver transplant or can lead to death. You should stop taking Jynarque and call your healthcare provider right away if you experience side effects of feeling tired or loss of appetite.

Jynarque Common Side Effects

Common side effects of Jynarque include:

  • excessive thirst
  • increased urination

Jynarque Serious Side Effects

Serious side effects are rare with Jynarque but if you notice any of the following, then it could be a sign of serious liver problems:

  • feeling tired
  • loss of appetite
  • nausea
  • right upper stomach (abdomen) pain or tenderness
  • vomiting
  • fever
  • rash
  • itching
  • yellowing of the skin and white part of the eye (jaundice)
    dark urine
