INVEGA TRINZA (paliperidone palmitate) is an atypical antipsychotic that is administered every three months and is used to treat schizophrenia in patients who have already received adequate treatment with INVEGA SUSTENNA (paliperidone palmitate administered once a month) for a minimum of four months.

Invega is not officially sanctioned for the treatment of anxiety or depression, but it may be prescribed off-label for these conditions in certain cases. It’s important to note that Invega can rarely cause anxiety as a side effect, potentially exacerbating this condition for some individuals.

Paliperidone primarily functions by inhibiting the receptors for dopamine and serotonin, neurotransmitters that play a role in schizophrenia. This action of blocking the receptors helps to restore the brain’s activity to a more balanced state and alleviate symptoms.

INVEGA® has been demonstrated to effectively alleviate the psychotic and mood symptoms linked with schizoaffective disorder.

How is schizophrenia treated with INVEGA®? INVEGA® has been proven to effectively reduce both the positive and negative symptoms of schizophrenia in studies involving over 1600 adults. Additionally, a long-term study with over 200 adults showed that INVEGA® effectively delays the time to relapse.

The clinical trials for treating schizoaffective disorder found that the most frequent side effects were abnormal muscle movements (such as tremors, shuffling, and involuntary movements), heartburn, constipation, drowsiness, weight gain, and sore throat.

Abilify (aripiprazole) and Invega (paliperidone) are both antipsychotic medications prescribed for the treatment of schizophrenia. However, Abilify has a broader range of uses as it is also effective in treating mania, depression, bipolar disorders, autistic disorders, and certain irritable behavior disorders. Both drugs share a common side effect of drowsiness.

PP1M (Invega Sustenna) and PP3M (Invega Trinza) are both forms of paliperidone palmitate, an intramuscular injection used for long-term treatment of Schizophrenia. The main difference between the two is the dosing frequency. PP3M is administered once every 3 months, while PP1M is given once a month (11).

Invega Trinza is prescribed for the treatment of schizophrenia in adults who have undergone a minimum of 4 months of therapy with Invega Sustenna. Both medications have the same active ingredient, paliperidone palmitate. However, Invega Sustenna is administered once a month, whereas Invega Trinza is administered every 3 months.

Invega Trinza contains a higher concentration (312 mg/mL) and larger particle size of paliperidone palmitate compared to Invega Sustenna. On the other hand, Invega Hayfera has the same concentration (312 mg/mL) as Invega Trinza but is designed to release its active ingredient over a period of 6 months.

According to the FDA’s standard definition of therapeutic equivalents, INVEGA and RISPERDAL are not considered therapeutically equivalent because they do not contain the same active ingredient. Additionally, they are not administered in the same range of dose strengths or according to the same recommended regimen.

Are Haldol and Invega identical medications? Avoid consuming alcohol while undergoing treatment with Invega Sustenna (paliperidone palmitate). The combination of alcohol and Invega Sustenna can heighten side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, and difficulty focusing. This can also impair your cognitive abilities, decision-making skills, and reaction time.

Invega Trinza (paliperidone palmitate) is administered via injection into either the deltoid muscle in the upper arm or the gluteal muscle in the buttock. This long-acting injection is given once every 3 months and is used to treat schizophrenia.

Administer the entire contents of the injection slowly and deeply into either the deltoid or gluteal muscle of the patient. Do not use any other method of administration.

During a 13-week, randomized, double-blind study, 5.1% of patients who received INVEGA SUSTENNA experienced treatment-emergent injection site pain. In comparison, only 0.8% of patients who received RLAI (administered only in the gluteal muscle) reported injection site pain.

At least four months of treatment with a monthly paliperidone palmitate extended release injectable suspension (e.g., INVEGA SUSTENNA®) or at least one three-month cycle of treatment with an every-three-month paliperidone palmitate extended release injectable suspension (e.g., INVEGA TRINZA®).

Administer the entire contents of the syringe intramuscularly, deep into either the deltoid or gluteal muscle. Only use this route of administration and make sure to use thin wall safety needles that are specifically designed for INVEGA TRINZA® (paliperidone palmitate).

Potential for Cognitive and Motor Impairment: Adverse reactions such as somnolence, sedation, and dizziness were observed in individuals who received treatment with INVEGA SUSTENNA®. It is important to note that INVEGA SUSTENNA® has the potential to negatively affect judgment, thinking abilities, and motor skills.

The Invega Sustenna (paliperidone palmitate) injection does not require refrigeration and can be stored at room temperature, specifically at 25°C or 77°F. It is acceptable for the temperature to vary between 15°C and 30°C (59°F and 86°F).

After the first dose of INVEGA TRINZA®, subsequent doses should be administered every 3 months. If necessary, the dosage can be adjusted every 3 months within the range of 273 mg to 819 mg, depending on the patient’s tolerance and effectiveness.

Possible side effects of the medication include drowsiness, dizziness, lightheadedness, drooling, restlessness, weight gain, and pain/redness/swelling at the injection site.

It is recommended to clinically monitor weight gain when using INVEGA SUSTENNA® as significant weight gain has been reported.

After taking your first dose of Invega, you can expect it to start working immediately. However, it may take a few weeks before you start noticing a reduction in your symptoms.

It is recommended to take Invega once daily, preferably in the morning, at approximately the same time every day.

Blurred vision was found to be a side effect specifically reported in children, while adults did not experience this. On the other hand, children were more likely to report anxiety, tremors, dystonia, and cogwheel rigidity compared to adults.

Invega has been shown in three short-term studies involving 1,692 adults to be more effective than a placebo and as effective as olanzapine at reducing symptoms of schizophrenia, as measured by a standard rating scale.

After being injected with INVEGA SUSTENNA, the drug begins to be released from day 1 and continues to be released for up to 126 days. The half-life of the drug is the amount of time it takes for 50% of the drug to be eliminated from the body.

There is no need for a loading dose or oral supplementation of Invega Sustenna as steady state plasma levels are reached within 4 months.

It is recommended to wait at least 5 days before increasing the dose of paliperidone, which should be taken once daily in the morning. It should be taken at the same time each day in relation to food. The recommended dose range is 3-12 mg.

It is important for your doctor to monitor for potential long-term side effects of Invega, which may include abnormal muscle movement and jerks (tardive dyskinesia) as well as metabolic adverse effects like weight gain, high blood sugar, and high cholesterol.
