Gocorvi is the brand name for amantadine and is available as an extended-release capsule.

Gocorvi is available as a 68.5 mg and 137 mg extended-release capsule.

What is Gocovri used for?

Gocorvi is an NMDA antagonists that is used to treat dyskinesia (uncontrolled movement) in people Parkinson’s disease (PD) who are taking levodopa/carbidopa.

How does Gocovri work?

Gocorvi is an N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) antagonist. It is not known exactly how it works to help with movement problems from Parkinson’s disease. Researchers think the medication increases dopamine in the brain by blocking NMDA receptors. This is thought to help relieve symptoms, like trembling, stiffness, and slow movement.

How do I take Gocovri?

The initial dose of Gocorvi is 137 mg at bedtime. After 1 week, it is typically increased to the recommended daily dosage of 274 mg.

Is it safe for me to take Gocovri?

Gocorvi is a safe and effective treatment when used for FDA licensed indications. However, like all medications, they may give you unwanted side effects. You should always discuss potential side effects with your physician to ensure the medication is suitable and right for you. You should not use this medication in the following:

  • End-stage renal disease

Gocovri Common Side Effects

Common side effects of Gocorvi:

  • Urinary tract infection

Gocovri Serious Side Effects

  • Suddenly falling asleep while doing something
  • Neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS): very high fevers, irregular pulse, sweating, stiff muscles, confusion, changes in blood pressure
