GLYXAMBI Uses, Side Effects, Interactions, Warnings & Dosing
What is GLYXAMBI?
GLYXAMBI is the brand name for empagliflozin and linagliptin and is available as an oral tablet.
What dosages is GLYXAMBI available in?
GLYXAMBI is available as an oral tablet that contains 10 mg empagliflozin/5 mg linagliptin or 25 mg empagliflozin/5 mg linagliptin.
What is GLYXAMBI used for?
GLYXAMBI is a SGLT2 inhibitor / DPP-4 inhibitor and is used for the following:
- Type 2 diabetes in adults
- Lower the chance of death due to heart problems for adults with Type 2 diabetes and heart disease
How does GLYXAMBI work?
GLYXAMBI is a combination of two medications. Empagliflozin is a sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor. It works in the kidneys to prevent the absorption of sugar back into your body. It lowers blood sugar by causing your body to get rid of excess sugar through your urine. Linagliptin is a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor. It works by blocking DPP-4, a protein that breaks down certain hormones that normally tell your body to make more insulin and produce less sugar. When DPP-4 causes low levels of these hormones, you end up having high blood sugar levels. By blocking the action of DPP-4, linagliptin allows your body to produce more insulin and make less sugar. In doing so, linagliptin helps lower your blood sugar levels.
How do I take GLYXAMBI?
- GLYXAMBI is typically dosed at 10 mg/5 mg (empagliflozin/linagliptin) by mouth once daily in the morning. The maximum dose is 25 mg/5 mg (empagliflozin/linagliptin) once daily in the morning
Is it safe for me to take GLYXAMBI?
GLYXAMBI is a safe and effective treatment when used for FDA licensed indications. However, like all medications, they may give you unwanted side effects. You should always discuss potential side effects with your physician to ensure the medication is suitable and right for you. You should not use this medication if you are on dialysis or have a hypersensitivity to empagliflozin, linagliptin, or any of the excipients in GLYXAMBI.
