Feiba is a lyophilized powder that comes in single-dose vials containing nominally 500, 1000, or 2500 units per vial.
What is Feiba used for?
Feiba is an Anti-Inhibitor Coagulant Complex indicated for use in hemophilia A and B patients with inhibitors for:
- Control and prevention of bleeding episodes
- Perioperative management
- Routine prophylaxis to prevent or reduce the frequency of bleeding episodes
How does Feiba work?
Feiba works as a bypassing agent that helps the blood to form clots and stop bleeding in patients with hemophilia A or B who have developed antibodies (inhibitors) against standard clotting factor replacement therapies.
How do I take Feiba?
Feiba is typically dosed as follows and is based on your weight. For control and prevention of bleeding episodes or perioperative management, the dose 50 to 100 units/kg. The frequecy/duration will be determined by the type of bleeding episode or surgical intervention. For routine prophylaxis, the dose is 85 units/kg every other day.
Is it safe for me to take Feiba?
Feiba is a safe and effective treatment when used for FDA licensed indications. However, like all medications, they may give you unwanted side effects. You should always discuss potential side effects with your physician to ensure the medication is suitable and right for you. You should not use this medication in the following:
- Previous severe allergic reaction to the product
- Disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC)
- Sudden blood vessel clots or blocked blood vessels, (such as, heart attack or stroke)
Feiba Common Side Effects
Common side effects of Feiba:
- Low number of red blood cells Diarrhea
- Bleeding into a joint
- Positive test for hepatitis B surface antibodies
- Nausea
- Vomiting
Feiba Serious Side Effects
Serious side effects are rare with Feiba. Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any of the following:
- Increased risk of a blood clot in vein, blood clot in the lung, heart attack, and stroke, especially at high doses
- Allergic reactions, including severe, sometimes fatal allergic reactions that can involve the whole body
