What is ENSPRYNG?
ENSPRYNG is the brand name for satralizumab-mwge subcutaneous injection.
What dosages is ENSPRYNG available in?
ENSPRYNG is available as a 120 mg/mL single-dose prefilled syringe.
What is ENSPRYNG used for?
ENSPRYNG is a monoclonal antibody that is used to treat neuromyelitis optica sectrum disorder (NMOSD) in adults who are anti-aquaporin-4 (AQP4) antibody positive.
How does ENSPRYNG work?
ENSPRYNG is a monoclonal antibody that works as an interleukin antagonist. It’s not exactly known how the medication works, but it’s thought to block interleukin-6 (IL-6), a protein that’s involved in inflammation. This might help treat NMOSD, a condition that happens when the immune system attacks the nerves of the eye, brain, and spinal cord and causes inflammation.
How do I take ENSPRYNG?
The typical starting dose is 120 mg injected under the skin every 2 weeks for the first 3 doses (at week 0, 2, and 4). After that, you’ll continue at a maintenance dose of 120 mg injected under the skin every 4 weeks.
Is it safe for me to take ENSPRYNG?
ENSPRYNG is a safe and effective treatment when used for FDA licensed indications. However, like all medications, they may give you unwanted side effects. You should always discuss potential side effects with your physician to ensure the medication is suitable and right for you. You should not use this medication if you have any of the following. Known hypersensitivity to satralizumab or any of the inactive ingredients.
- Active Hepatitis B infection
- Active or untreated latent tuberculosis
ENSPRYNG Common Side Effects
Common side effects of ENSPRYNG:
- Rash
- Joint pain
- Pain in hands and feet
- Tiredness
- Nausea
- Common cold
ENSPRYNG Serious Side Effects
Serious side effects are rare with ENSPRYNG. Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any of the following.
- Severe allergic reaction: hives, chest tightness, trouble breathing, wheezing, fast heartbeat, stomach pain, vomiting, swelling of the tongue or throat
- Infection: fever, chills, muscle aches, constant cough, sore throat, skin redness or swelling, diarrhea, burning feeling during urination
- Liver problems: nausea, vomiting, feeling tired, swollen belly, pain in the stomach, dark urine, yellowing of the skin or whites of the eyes
Effects of other drugs, drug classes and over-the-counter products on ENSPRYNG
- There are no major drug interactions listed for ENSPRYNG. However, always let your physician and pharmacist know about any other medications or supplements (including prescribed and over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and dietary or herbal supplements) that you are currently taking
