EMGALITY Uses, Side Effects, Interactions, Warnings & Dosing
What is EMGALITY?
EMGALITY is the brand name for galcanezumab-gnlm and is available as a subcutaneous injection.
What dosages is EMGALITY available in?
EMGALITY is available as one of the following subcutaneous injections:
- 120 mg/mL solution in a single-dose prefilled pen
- 120 mg/mL solution in a single-dose prefilled syringe
- 100 mg/mL solution in a single-dose prefilled syringe
What is EMGALITY used for?
EMGALITY is a monoclonal antibody and is used for the following:
- Migraine prevention
- Episodic (occasional) cluster headaches
How does EMGALITY work?
EMGALITY is a monoclonal antibody. It blocks a protein in your body called calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) ligand. Your nerves release CGRPs during migraine attacks and cluster headaches. CGRPs cause the blood vessels in your brain to swell, which can lead to pain. When EMGALITY blocks these proteins, it can prevent migraines and ease pain from cluster headaches.
How do I take EMGALITY?
EMGALITY is dosed as following:
- Migraine prevention: The typical dose is 240 mg (two injections of 120 mg each, one right after the other) injected under the skin once when you first start the medication. Then, inject 120 mg under the skin once a month
- Episodic cluster headaches: The typical dose is 300 mg (three injections of 100 mg each, one right after the other) injected under the skin once at the start of your cluster period. Then, inject 300 mg under the skin once a month, until the end of your cluster period
Is it safe for me to take EMGALITY?
EMGALITY is a safe and effective treatment when used for FDA licensed indications. However, like all medications, they may give you unwanted side effects. You should always discuss potential side effects with your physician to ensure the medication is suitable and right for you.

Is EMGALITY safe in pregnancy?
There are no adequate data on the developmental risk associated with the use of EMGALITY in pregnant women. It should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. There is a pregnancy exposure registry that monitors pregnancy outcomes in women exposed to EMGALITY during pregnancy. Healthcare providers are encouraged to register pregnant patients, or pregnant women may enroll themselves in the registry by calling 1-833-464-4724 or by contacting the company at Migraine pregnancy registry
