What is Edurant?

Edurant is the brand name for rilpivirine and is available as an oral tablet.

What dosages is Edurant available in?

Edurant is available as a 25 mg oral tablet.

What is Edurant used for?

Edurant is a HIV ARV and is used for the following:

  • Treatment of HIV-1 infection in people with an HIV viral load of less than 100,000 copies/mL and who haven’t taken HIV medications before
  • Short-term treatment of HIV-1 infection in certain people who are planning to start or planning to miss a dose of Cabenuva (cabotegravir / rilpivirine)

How does Edurant work?

Edurant is an HIV antiretroviral medication that’s known as a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI). It blocks an enzyme called reverse transcriptase that helps HIV make copies of itself. By blocking this enzyme, the medication prevents HIV from spreading.

How do I take Edurant?

Edurant is dosed as follows:

  • Treatment of HIV-1: The typical dose is 25 mg by mouth once a day with a meal. Edurant is taken with other antiretroviral medications
  • Short-term treatment of HIV-1 before starting Cabunuva (cabotegravir / rilpivirine): The typical dose is 25 mg by mouth once a day with a meal for about 1 month (at least 28 days). It’s taken together with Vocabria (cabotegravir)
  • Replacing a missed injection of Cabenuva (cabotegravir / rilpivirine): Your HIV specialist might prescribe Edurant for you to take for a short while if you’re getting Cabenuva injections for HIV but will miss an injection because of a schedule conflict (e.g., traveling). The typical dose of Edurant is 25 mg by mouth once a day with a meal and with Vocabria (cabotegravir). This combination is only meant to be taken for up to 2 months to replace missed injections

Is it safe for me to take Edurant?

Edurant is a safe and effective treatment when used for FDA licensed indications. However, like all medications, they may give you unwanted side effects. You should always discuss potential side effects with your physician to ensure the medication is suitable and right for you. You should not use this medication if you take any medications that can greatly lower the amount of Edurant in your body, such as certain anti-seizure medications (e.g., carbamazepine (Tegretol)), certain antibiotics (e.g., rifampin (Rifadin)), more than a single dose of dexamethasone, or St. John’s wort

Edurant Common Side Effects

Common side effects of Edurant:

  • Higher liver function tests
  • Higher cholesterol levels
  • Higher creatinine levels

  • NowPatient is worth your time!

I do not leave reviews, due to time and a rare condition I have. I initially left a message, my call was returned within 2 hours or less. NowPatient offers 4 discount programs. I worked with Jay, he was genuine and wanted to help me all while giving me amazing customer service. Even though I didn't qualify, he gave me some suggestions and tips while encouraging me to follow up with the manufacturer along with other things I could do. This is the real deal, not a scam, and not a waste of your time. Amazing!! Thank you, Jay!

  • Excellent service

Cannot speak highly enough of the service and assistance I have received from NowPatient. I was dealing with a very kind and helpful clinician who couldn't do enough to assist. He was knowledgeable about the medication being prescribed and the consultation was thorough. There were some hurdles to overcome to receive the medication overseas and nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommend.
