Cyproterone acetate has anti-androgen effects resulting in part from its blockade of androgen receptors, and Diane-35 is approved only as therapy for androgen-sensitive skin conditions, including hirsutism and severe acne unresponsive to oral antibiotic therapy.

Do not take Diane-35 ED if you are concerned about or have an increased risk of blood clots. Blood clots are rare. Very occasionally blood clots may cause serious permanent disability and may even be fatal. All combined oral contraceptive pills, including Diane-35 ED, increase the risk of having a blood clot.

DIANE-35 is composed of the progestogen cyproterone acetate and the estrogen ethinylestradiol and is administered for 21 days of a monthly cycle.

DIANE-35 is used to treat skin conditions such as acne, very oily skin and excessive hair growth in women of reproductive age. These include patients with polycystic ovary syndrome, who require treatment for these symptoms. DIANE-35 is a hormonal contraceptive (the “Pill”).

DIANE-35 ED will also provide effective oral contraception in this patient group. It should not be used in combination with other hormonal contraceptives (see CONTRAINDICATIONS).

Yaz is considered the most effective of the three as it contains drospirenone which is a synthetic version of the sex hormone, progesterone. It helps to treat acne by blocking the effects of testosterone, a type of androgen.

What is the best time of day to take your pill? Although you can take birth control at any time of day, it is best not to take it on an empty stomach.
