What is dasiglucagon used for?
dasiglucagon is an anti-hypoglycemic and is used for emergency treatment of very low blood sugar in people age 6 years and older.
How does dasiglucagon work?
dasiglucagon is a glucagon receptor agonist that works to raise blood sugar (glucose) levels. It does this by triggering your liver to make more glucose and by breaking down glycogen (a stored form of glucose) in your body.
How do I take dasiglucagon?
dasiglucagon is typically dosed as 0.6 mg injected under the skin as needed for very low blood sugar. If your blood sugar doesn’t rise after 15 minutes, you can repeat the dose once.
Is it safe for me to take dasiglucagon?
dasiglucagon is a safe and effective treatment when used for FDA licensed indications. However, like all medications, they may give you unwanted side effects. The following medications may interact with dasiglucagon:
- Beta-blockers: Patients taking beta-blockers may have a transient increase in pulse and blood pressure
- Indomethacin: In patients taking indomethacin, dasiglucagon may lose its ability to raise blood glucose or may produce hypoglycemia
- Warfarin: dasiglucagon may increase the anticoagulant effect of warfarin
