DARZALEX Uses, Side Effects, Interactions, Warnings & Dosing
What is DARZALEX?
DARZALEX is the brand name for daratumumab and is available as an injection for IV use.
What dosages is DARZALEX available in?
DARZALEX is available as a 100 mg/5 mL and 400 mg/20 mL injection for IV use.
What is DARZALEX used for?
DARZALEX is an anti-CD38 monoclonal antibody and is used for the following:
Multiple myeloma:
- Given alone or in combination with certain other medications for people who haven’t responded well to previous treatments
- Given in combination with certain medications (other medications differ for people who can and can’t receive a stem-cell transplant)
How does DARZALEX work?
DARZALEX is an anti-CD38 monoclonal antibody. It treats multiple myeloma by targeting a specific protein called CD38 on the cells’ surface. Many cells, including healthy cells, have this protein. But multiple myeloma cells just have more of them. By binding to this protein, DARZALEX attacks and kills the cancer cells, and also signals to the immune system to do the same. As a result, multiple myeloma cells can’t grow and spread as well.
How do I take DARZALEX?
- DARZALEX is given as an infusion into the veins (IV) by a healthcare provider in a hospital or clinic setting. Your provider will determine your dose based on your body weight
- Adults: When DARZALEX is given alone, the typical dose is 16 mg/kg once a week for 8 doses, then every 2 weeks for 8 doses, then every 4 weeks thereafter
- When DARZALEX is given together with other anticancer medications, your provider will determine your dose and how often you receive it based on what medication combination you’re taking
Is it safe for me to take DARZALEX?
DARZALEX is a safe and effective treatment when used for FDA licensed indications. However, like all medications, they may give you unwanted side effects. You should always discuss potential side effects with your physician to ensure the medication is suitable and right for you.
