The following medications may interact with CYTOMEL:

  • Bile Acid Sequestrants such as colesevelam, cholestyramine, and colestipol and Ion Exchange Resins such as kayexalate and sevelamer – May decrease thyroid hormones absorption. Administer CYTOMEL at least 4 hours prior to these drugs or monitor TSH levels
  • Clofibrate, estrogen-containing oral contraceptives, estrogens (oral), methadone, 5-Fluorouracil, mitotane, and tamoxifen – May increase serum thyroxine-binding globulin (TBG) concentration
  • androgens / anabolic steroids, asparaginase, glucocorticoids, slow-release nicotinic acid – These drugs may decrease serum TBG concentration
  • Phenobarbital and rifampin – May decrease the levels and effects of thyroid hormones
