How does CRINONE work?
CRINONE contains the natural sex hormone progesterone. It restarts menstrual periods by helping to balance the natural levels of progesterone in the body. When used for fertility treatments, it prepares the uterus to receive and nourish an embryo.
How do I take CRINONE?
CRINONE is dosed as follows:
- Fertility treatment: Insert 90 mg of the 8% gel into your vagina 1 to 2 times a day. If you successfully become pregnant, you will continue using this medication for 10 to 12 weeks
- Lack of menstrual periods: Insert 45 mg of the 4% gel into your vagina every other day for 6 doses. If needed, the dose can be raised to 90 mg of the 8% gel every other day

CRINONE is a safe and effective treatment when used for FDA licensed indications. However, like all medications, they may give you unwanted side effects. You should always discuss potential side effects with your physician to ensure the medication is suitable and right for you. CRINONE should not be used in individuals with any of the following conditions:
Known sensitivity to Crinone (progesterone or any of the other ingredients).
- Undiagnosed vaginal bleeding
- Liver dysfunction or disease
- Known or suspected malignancy of the breast or genital organs.Missed abortion
- Active thrombophlebitis or thromboembolic disorders, or a history of hormone-associated thrombophlebitis or thromboembolic disorders

CRINONE Serious Side Effects

- Stroke: Sudden trouble talking, trouble walking, numbness on one side of your body or face

Is CRINONE safe in pregnancy?
CRINONE 8% is also used as part of a program for women who are undergoing fertility treatments to get pregnant. Progesterone is one of the hormones that helps to prepare the lining of your uterus so that it is ready to receive and nourish a fertilized egg and to continue a pregnancy. If you are undergoing ART treatment and your doctor has determined your body does not produce enough progesterone on its own, Crinone may be prescribed to increase your progesterone. If pregnancy occurs, CRINONE may be supplemented for 10-12 weeks until
production of progesterone by the placenta is adequate.
