Clonidine Hydrochloride is a centrally acting alpha2-adrenergic agonist indicated for the treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) as monotherapy or as adjunctive therapy to central nervous system (CNS) stimulant medications in pediatric patients 6 years of age and older.
How does Clonidine Hydrochloride work?
Clonidine Hydrochloride works by stimulating α-2 adrenergic receptors in the brain and is from a class of medicines called α-2 adrenergic receptor agonists. The Clonidine Hydrochloride (clonidine) mechanism of action on ADHD is unknown.
How do I take Clonidine Hydrochloride?
Clonidine Hydrochloride is started at 0.1 mg by mouth once daily at bedtime with or without food. The dosage may be increased in increments of 0.1 mg per day at weekly intervals. Maximum recommended dosage is 0.4 mg once daily at bedtime.

Effects of other drugs, drug classes and over-the-counter products on Clonidine Hydrochloride
The following medications may interact with Clonidine Hydrochloride: CNS Depressants: Clonidine may potentiate the CNS-depressive effects of alcohol, barbiturates or other sedating drugs. Tricyclic Antidepressants: May reduce the hypotensive effect of clonidine. Drugs Known to Affect Sinus Node Function or AV Nodal Conduction: Avoid use of Clonidine Hydrochloride with agents known to affect sinus node function or AV nodal conduction (e.g., digitalis, calcium channel blockers and betablockers) due to a potential for additive effects such as bradycardia and AV block. Antihypertensive drugs: Use caution when coadministered with Clonidine Hydrochloride.
