Climara Pro is the brand name for estradiol/levonorgestrel transdermal system.

What dosages is Climara Pro available in?

Climara Pro is available as a transdermal system that contains 0.045 mg/day estradiol and 0.015 mg/day levonorgestrel.

What is Climara Pro used for?

Climara Pro is an estrogen replacement/progestin that is used in women who have gone through menopause with a healthy uterus for the:

  • Treatment of moderate-to-severe menopausal symptoms (e.g., hot flashes, night sweats)
  • Prevention of osteoporosis

How does Climara Pro work?

Climara Pro is a combination of two medications that act as natural hormones to balance the hormonal changes your body goes through during and after menopause.

  • Estradiol is an estrogen replacement. By providing your body with a form of estrogen, estradiol relieves menopausal symptoms caused by low estrogen, such as hot flashes and night sweats. In addition, estrogen and estradiol prevent bone loss and make bone stronger
  • Levonorgestrel is a progestin. It acts like progesterone and helps balance the effect of estrogen on the growth of your uterine lining

How do I take Climara Pro?

Apply 1 patch to your lower stomach once a week on the same day of the week. Each patch gives you 0.045 mg of estradiol and 0.015 mg of levonorgestrel a day.

Is it safe for me to take Climara Pro?

Climara Pro is a safe and effective treatment when used for FDA licensed indications. However, like all medications, they may give you unwanted side effects. You should always discuss potential side effects with your physician to ensure the medication is suitable and right for you. You should not use this medication in the following:

  • Undiagnosed abnormal genital bleeding
  • Breast cancer or a history of breast cancer
  • Estrogen-dependent neoplasia
  • Active DVT, PE or a history of these conditions
  • Active arterial thromboembolic disease (for example, stroke and MI), or a history of these conditions
  • Known anaphylactic reaction or angioedema or hypersensitivity to Climara Pro
  • Hepatic impairment or disease
  • Protein C, protein S, or antithrombin deficiency, or other thrombophilic disorders

Common side effects of Climara Pro:

  • Application site reaction
  • Vaginal bleeding
  • Breast pain
  • Sore throat, runny nose, nasal congestion, or cough
  • Depression
  • Back pain
  • General pain
  • Headache
  • Flu-like symptoms

Climara Pro Serious Side Effects

Serious side effects are rare with Climara Pro. Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any of the following.

  • Blood clots: trouble breathing, leg pain or swelling, skin that’s warm to the touch
  • Heart attack: chest pain, arm pain, shortness of breath, cold sweat, lightheadedness
  • Stroke: sudden weakness on one side of your body, drooping face, changes in your speech or vision, confusion, headache

Effects of other drugs, drug classes and over-the-counter products on Climara Pro

The following medications may interact with Climara Pro:

  • Inducers and/or inhibitors of CYP3A4 may affect estrogen drug metabolism and decrease or increase the estrogen plasma concentration
  • Hydroxylation of levonorgestrel may interact with inhibitors of CYP3A
  • CYP2E and CYP2C and decrease the therapeutic effects.
