How does CIALIS work?
CIALIS is a phosphodiesterase-5 enzyme (PDE-5) inhibitor. It works by blocking PDE-5. This is a protein in your body that breaks down the molecules that normally cause an erection. When it blocks PDE-5, CIALIS helps an erection occur by allowing certain muscles in the penis to relax and the penis to fill with blood.
How do I take CIALIS?
CIALIS is typically taken by mouth about 30 minutes before sexual activity up to once per day as needed. Your provider will adjust your dose based on your response.
Is it safe for me to take CIALIS?
CIALIS is a safe and effective treatment when used for FDA licensed indications. However, like all medications, they may give you unwanted side effects. You should always discuss potential side effects with your physician to ensure the medication is suitable and right for you. You should not use this medication if you using any form of organic nitrate is contraindicated, have a history of known serious hypersensitivity reaction to CIALIS or ADCIRCA, or are taking a guanylate cyclase (GC) stimulator such as riociguat.

Serious side effects are rare with CIALIS. Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any of the following.
- Erection lasting for more than 4 hours
- Vision loss
- Dangerously low blood pressure: feeling faint or weak, dizziness, blurry vision, feeling confused
Effects of other drugs, drug classes and over-the-counter products on CIALIS
The following medications may interact with CIALIS:
- CIALIS can potentiate the hypotensive effects of nitrates, alphablockers, antihypertensives or alcohol.
- CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g. ketoconazole, ritonavir) can increase CIALIS exposure requiring dose adjustment.In this situation the dose should be no more than 10 mg every 72 hours and CIALIS for once daily use: dose not to exceed 2.5 mg.
- CYP3A4 inducers (e.g. rifampin) decrease CIALIS exposure requiring dose adjustment.
