Cardura is an alpha-1 blocker. In benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), it relaxes certain muscles in the prostate and bladder. This relaxation makes it easier for urine to flow, reducing problems with urination. In the treatment of high blood pressure, it relaxes your blood vessels. This relaxation allows blood to flow more smoothly throughout your body, which helps lower your blood pressure.

Cardura is typically taken by mouth once a day.

Cardura is a safe and effective treatment when used for FDA licensed indications. However, like all medications, they may give you unwanted side effects. You should always discuss potential side effects with your physician to ensure the medication is suitable and right for you. You should not use this medication if you have a hypersensitivity to doxazosin, other quinazolines, or any other ingredient in Cardura.

Serious side effects are rare with Cardura. Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience any of the following. Priapism: painful erection lasting more than 4 hours

The following medications may interact with Cardura:

• Strong cytochrome P450 (CYP) 3A inhibitors may increase exposure to doxazosin and increased risk of hypotension
• Concomitant administration of Cardura with a phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE-5) inhibitor can result in additive blood pressure lowering effects and symptomatic hypotension
